Short Bio

Fabrizio Argenti earned his Bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering (with honors) from the University of Florence in 1989, defending a thesis titled “Classification and Segmentation of Remote Sensing Images through Texture Analysis.” For his thesis, he received the “Renato Mariani” Award, sponsored by the Florence Section of the Italian Association of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (AEI).

In 1993, he obtained a Ph.D. in Electronic and Information Engineering, with a dissertation on “Multiresolution Coding and Digital Transmission of Still and Moving Images.”

From July 1989 to June 1990, he was a recipient of a scholarship established by Galileo Siscam in Florence, studying problems related to 3D scene reconstruction from stereo images.

From 1993 to 2002, he worked as a university researcher in Telecommunications at the Department of Electronics and Telecommunications in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Florence. He was classified in the scientific-disciplinary sector of Telecommunications.

Since November 2002, he has been serving at the same department as an Associate Professor in the scientific-disciplinary sector ING/INF-03 - Telecommunications.

His teaching activities include courses in Digital Signal Processing, Telecommunication Systems, Digital Transmission, Estimation Theory, and Statistical Signal Processing. He is a member of the Faculty Board of the Ph.D. program in Information Engineering at the University of Florence.

From February 2007 to January 2009, he served as the President of the Bachelor’s Degree Program in Information Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Florence.

In 1991 and 1992, he conducted research as a visiting researcher at the Laboratory of Digital Signal Processing in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

He is a Senior Member of the IEEE (The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers).

He is a regular reviewer for journals such as IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, IEEE Signal Processing Letters, IEEE Transactions on Circuit and Systems, IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, and EURASIP Signal Processing, covering topics related to numerical signal processing.

He has been a member of the Technical Program Committee for numerous scientific conferences in the field of signal processing.

He is the author or co-author of over forty articles in international scientific journals and over a hundred papers in international conference proceedings. He is also a co-author of the textbook “Digital Signal Processing: Theory, Exercises, and Examples on the Computer,” published by McGraw-Hill in 2011.

His scientific activity has been developed within several research projects in satellite communications, digital communications, multimedia signal transmission, and remote sensing.

Compression and transmission of multimedia signals (audio, images, video compression, compressed video transmission over digital networks and noisy channels);
Telecommunication systems (integration of satellite and terrestrial mobile systems, cryptography).
